The City of Portage, MI
CURBSIDE BRUSH COLLECTION PROGRAM

The City of Portage will collect brush at the curbside on a quarterly basis only, rather than monthly. Collection services will be provided in the months of JANAURY, APRIL, JULY and OCTOBER only.

The city is divided into four quadrants for collection purposes as previously defined. Please Click Here to view the City of Portage's official map for this service.

This program is provide to the citizens of Portage to help them keep their yard looking nice. It is not designed to remove excessively large piles of brush. Brush must be in neat and manageable pile along the street. The contractor will not go into your yard to remove material.

The materials must be at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on (but not more than 72 hours prior to) your designated Monday. Keep in mind that the materials may not be collected on Monday. However, each zone will be cleared by the end of the designated week. If you miss your scheduled week of pick up, there will not be another pick-up until the following quarter.

!NEW for this year. GPS Route Recording !

The path of the pick up crew will be documented via GPS Recorder. The contractor providing the service will have a device in their vehicles that will record their location, time, & speed. This data will be down loaded each night and the information will be provided to the City. If there is any question on whether or not the contractor has been by your house, there will be documentation. In other words, make sure your brush, bagged leaves, or Christmas trees are curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your designated Monday. The contractor will not be going back to pick up your pile if it is late.

In April, along with the brush, leaves bagged in kraft bags will be collected. ONLY leaves bagged in kraft paper yard waste bags will be accepted. The use of plastic bags for this program is prohibited. Biodegradable kraft bags are easy to fill. They are designed to self-open and self-stand, accepting both dry and moist leaves. Kraft biodegradable bags are available in the lawn and garden departments of most major retail outlets. Only yard waste should be placed in the bags. Bags weighing more than 50 pounds will not be picked up.

In January, you may place your whole Christmas tree on the curb.
